Groupon class action alleges expiration dates violate federal and state laws

A class action lawsuit pending in the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota, alleges that Groupon violates federal and Minnesota state laws by selling and issuing gift certificates with expiration dates.  The suit, filed on March 8, 2010, states that Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act (CARD), the Electronic Funds Transfer Act (EFTA), and Minnesota Statute 325G.53 prohibit the sale and issuance of gift certificates with expiration dates.  The plaintiff is represented by two law firms (Myles A. Schneider & Assoc., Ltd., and Bonnett, Fairbourn, Friedman & Balint, P.C.) and five attorneys (Myles A. Schneider, Andrew S. Friedman, Elaine A. Ryan, Patricia N. Syverson, and Todd D. Carpenter).  For further information, see Brian Zard v. Groupon, Inc., 0:11-cv00605.
