Thank you for visiting my website and researching my background to this extent. My name is Dennis Neil Smith, Jr., and all of my friends, family members, clients, and professional colleagues call me “Neil”. My singular goal in providing legal services is to obtain the most favorable result for every one of my clients, and do so in an expeditious and cost-effective manner. Nearly all of my clients are referred here by former clients or people who know me personally. Many of my referrals come from other attorneys who are familiar with the quality of my work. You won’t see ads for my firm on billboards, hear me boasting about winning millions of dollars on TV, or hear me warning men to stand up for their parental rights during sports talk radio.

What is your educational background?

I earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia, in 2000, and earned a law degree from Loyola University New Orleans in 2003.  During law school, I worked at the Internal Revenue Service on issues relating to small businesses and sole proprietorships.  As an undergraduate, I held an executive role in the student government and was a member of the Honor's College. If you’re from St. Louis, you may be interested in knowing that I attended two different high schools (because I loved high school so much) - first St. Louis University High and then Marquette.

How long have you been practicing law?

After finishing law school in 2003, I worked for a large law firm representing many of the largest American financial and industrial companies. In 2006, I opened my own practice in St. Louis County and have since represented thousands of people in family law cases and class actions. I’ve also provided information and legal analysis to news sources including Missouri Lawyers Weekly, The St. Louis Daily Record, The Countian, Fox 2 (St. Louis), KSDK (St. Louis), NBC KY3 (Springfield, Missouri), and KOLR 10 (Springfield), spoken to groups of students about the practice of law, and served as the head coach of the Missouri State University mock trial team.

Bar Membership and Philanthropy

I am a member in good standing of the Missouri Bar, Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL), the Class Action Committee of the American Bar Association, and licensed to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.

We regularly contribute to a variety of non-profits, including the American Cancer Society, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, San Diego Coastkeeper, and Join Hands, ESL.  The firm also sponsors youth athletic teams and programs.
