Class action against LegalZoom.com granted class certification

U.S. District Judge Nanette K. Laughrey granted class certification in a Missouri case in which the plaintiffs allege that Legalzoom.com, Inc., violated the state's unauthorized practice of law statutes.  The class representatives, at last count represented by five law firms, also allege that LegalZoom violated the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act.  LegalZoom provides an online service where customers can create custom legal forms for wills, non-contested divorces, corporate articles of incorporation, and various other legal documents.  Recent news reports indicated that LegalZoom is exploring selling shares via an initial public offering.  For more information regarding the lawsuit, please see Todd Janson, et al. v.
